BACKGROUND
Battersea Arts Centre was originally the Town Hall of then Vestry of St.
Since the 1980s, areas of the building have been converted to reflect the building’s rich history – its transition from Town Hall to a centre for the arts – the council chamber has become the theatre, the old public gallery into part of the auditorium. The former town clerk’s office was converted into Studio One, opened by Princess Diana in 1985; the old borough surveyor’s office became the café, his drawing office the cinema – now Studio Two. The Family Room is the old switchboard room.
The Grand and Lower Halls, however, have remained constant in their use for entertainment, education and private functions - from jazz dancing classes to Asian wedding receptions, tea dances to art and fashion sales, and accountancy examinations to film shoots.

The Grand Hall
Entered via a circular foyer with it's richly mosaic tiled floor and stained glass cupola, the Grand Hall makes an impressive backdrop for any function. With it's vaulted ceiling and period details the hall is an ideal room for large events including weddings, trade fairs, exhibitions, launches and conferences.
The Lower Hall
Linked by a staircase, the lower hall is suitable for smaller meetings, wedding receptions and dinners.
This space has its own entrance, foyer and cloakroom enabling the hall to be used separately or in conjunction with the grand hall. The lower hall is also a particularly fine temporary exhibition space.
The Mezzanine Room
The Mezzanine Room is a smaller room,
with an adjoining kitchenette.
Newly re-decorated, it is ideal for
meetings, small-scale seminars or
classes, and rehearsals.
It also provides a useful additional space when hiring the Grand Hall.
